Dell, which competes with Hewlett-Packard, Acer, Apple and Lenovo within the worldwide PC marketplace, is ready to enter the lucrative smartphone marketplace with a range of mobile phones which are scheduled for release more than the following year.

We estimate that the wise telephone company will add slightly much more than $1 billion in value to our valuation of Dell’s stock if Dell can achieve a modest 0.5% marketplace reveal within the worldwide mobile telephone marketplace and maintain wise telephone costs comparable to numerous from the existing players within the space.

We estimate that the mobile phones company constitutes 3% from the $17 Trefis cost estimate for Dell’s stock. Beneath we discuss our expected pricing and marketplace reveal trends for Dell’s mobile company.

Dell’s Smart Telephone Costs to Decline from $450 to Beneath $300

Dell is producing an aggressive entry into the wise telephone marketplace in 2010, a marketplace that has gained substantial traction since the launch of RIM’s BlackBerry in 1999 and Apple’s iPhone in 2007.

Numerous other players like Nokia, Motorola and Google have also entered the wise telephone marketplace with their own versions of wise phones. Apart from a couple of exclusive functions, most from the wise phones have a typical set of functions which has resulted in standardization of wise telephone costs to some extent.

Dell plans to a launch a series of wise phones in 2010, of which ‘Streak’ has been priced at close to $500. We estimate the cost for Dell’s other wise phones to be within the range of $400 to $500 for 2010, and forecast an average value of $450 for Dell wise phones in 2010.

We anticipate Dell’s wise telephone costs to decline further and reach beneath the $300 levels through the end from the Trefis forecast period, fueled by growing competition within the segment and increasing commoditization of wise phones.

Dell’s Mobile Telephone Marketplace Reveal to Improve To 0.5%

Dell will face powerful competition from wise telephone vendors for example Nokia, Apple, RIM, HTC, Samsung and Motorola who have powerful presence in countries like the U.S., China, Brazil, U.K. and India where Dell plans to introduce its phones more than the following year. This has led us to remain conservative in our estimates for Dell’s wise telephone reveal. For 2010, we estimate Dell to capture only close to 0.1% reveal from the total worldwide mobile telephone marketplace.

We anticipate Dell’s unit sales in 2010 will be led through the ‘Streak, a wise telephone or tablet device ideal for consumers who don’t wish to spend on two separate devices. Streak has a bigger screen than other obtainable wise phones within the marketplace, producing it convenient for the user to read and watch videos. Its 5-inch size with camera functions (that aren’t present within the iPad) give it an upper-hand in some methods more than other tablets.

As Dell introduces new wise phones for example ‘Flash’, ‘Lightning’, ‘Smoke’ and ‘Thunder’ more than the following year and expands into other regions, we anticipate its marketplace reveal to benefit. We estimate Dell’s marketplace reveal within the worldwide mobile telephone marketplace to reach 0.5% through the end from the Trefis forecast period.

Dell Company is a multinational company which has excellent feed back from the customers about its products. In the recent periods, Dell Company has introduced mobile phones into the market and these are very good. There are good models and good features in it. It is expected for the future period of time, Dell mobile phones will definitely receive a heavy demand as the company has excellent reputation in the market.

Dell phones will definitely cover a huge market because of the fact that, the company has partners with innovative technology and services. Although there are many companies in mobile phone market which are internationally branded for its technology and features, Dell has equally contributed its share in giving the best features on its mobile phone.

The trend in the market has also changed in many ways with the fact that initially when laptops were introduced into the market, there was huge demand and as several brands released its models, customers mindset shifted to the use of mobile phones. Therefore, this does not mean that there is less demand for laptops and growing demand for mobile phones. As compared to the previous years, mobile phone market has grown rapidly and it will still be growing. Therefore, Dell phones can always project a good sale its mobile phones in the coming period of time.

This is also because of the fact that, the models of Dell phones are equally good with those of competitors and are carrying Wi-Fi connectivity and Bluetooth technology. Apart from this, MMS, voice calls and SMS are some of the regular features. Further buying Dell cell phones and its accessories is very easy from the Dell company web site.

Dell phones are very good as reviewed by its customers. This is because of the fact that Dell customers who use Dell PCs are quite happy and comfortable with its technology and therefore it is also expected that Dell mobile phones are also very good with good quality functioning in its handsets.

For instance, there are many companies like LG and Samsung which introduced mobile phones and both the companies became successful in the market. LG models of mobile phones are widely accepted in the market and similarly Samsung laptops and mobile phones have good demand in the market.

The point of emphasis is, once the company has been recognized for its reputation in the market, consumer always picks that product due to the review given for the product. The demand for a product is always dependent on the review.

In this pattern, if one makes an analysis, Dell is already an established multinational company in the field of computers and its computers are available world wide and now with its launch of mobile phones, customers will definitely go for its purchase as the company is giving mobile phones at a lesser price with latest technology embedded into the mobile phones.

Therefore, such features and facilities with latest design will certainly interest the customer to give a good review of the product and the Dell mobile market will grow on a rapid pace. What is important here is also that, customers those who cannot afford to buy high priced mobile handsets will always prefer low cost handsets and this market is plenty. If Dell is offering and aiming to an average income group, in such case, its mobile market will receive a very high demand as every average income earner will prefer a Dell mobile handset because of its price.

Industrial workers, daily labor workers and regular employees, almost every one wishes to be an owner of a mobile handset. Checking of SMS, making phone calls, receiving phone calls and checking balances are some of the regular works done on a mobile.

Communication becoming the main media, people would like to communicate through their mobiles wherever they are and in fact a mobile handset has become a necessity and not a luxury. Therefore, keeping all these important points in view, Dell Company is expected to be very successful through its launch of mobile phone. It can cover rural areas and urban areas by offering moderate cost mobile handsets.

Pictures of two Dell smartphones, including one with China’s 3G mobile common and a new body shape for Dell’s cell phone series, have been posted on the Web website of a Chinese regulator.

The listings for that Dell Mini 3T1 and Mini 3iX show the phones have received network access licenses for China, which are needed for phones to be sold within the country and suggest they will debut there soon. The regulator, the Telecommunication Equipment Certification Center under China’s IT ministry, issued the licenses to both phones within the last month.

The Mini 3T1 supports the Chinese homegrown 3G regular being promoted by carrier China Mobile, TD-SCDMA, according to the government regulator. That means China Mobile is likely to provide the telephone, and that the telephone could have a version of the Android operating system that China Mobile has modified, just like Dell’s last cell phone for that carrier. China Mobile, the world’s largest mobile carrier by number of accounts, uses the Ophone brand for devices with its tweaked version of Android.

The Mini 3T1 has a rectangular body that sets it apart from the Mini 3i, the smartphone that was Dell’s very first and that China Mobile started selling late last year, or the Aero mobile phone that Dell has announced for AT&T inside the U.S. The Mini 3T1 also has a shorter screen than the other phones, using the extra space for three buttons below the screen and a circular section that looks potentially like another button pad. The telephone appears to have a 2.0 megapixel camera within the Chinese regulator’s image of its back.

The second mobile phone on the regulator’s Web website, the Mini 3iX, supports the 3G normal being used by carrier China Unicom, WCDMA. The mobile phone has the rounded corners and large screen of the Mini 3i and the Aero, but it is different in having a Dell logo at the top of its screen. The regulator did not say if the cellular phone would use Android or another OS.

Both the Mini 3T1 and the 3iX also support a Chinese security protocol, WAPI, that regulators have needed on all phones that can connect to wireless LANs.

No details on pricing or launch dates were available. Dell, China Unicom and China Mobile separately declined to comment.

Smartphones are growing at a rapid speed in the mobile handset market. There are few evidences to back this statement.

The report of IDC says that the converged mobile device market has seen a growth of about 30 percent in 2009. The report also mentions that this growth momentum will continue even this year.

Paul Jacobs, the CEO of Qualcomm, believes that the market for smartphones will split into high-end segment and low-end segment. He says that this is a trend that is speedly eroding the feature phones market.
The Yankee Group’s survey of 2009 had found about 43 percent of consumers of US plans to take smartphones their next mobile device.

Well, one question arises. Is is that all these reports is a gesture to smartphone market for new vendors?

If you look at the recent news of Palm and Garmin, it indicates that the market of smartphones is in fact not profit panacea that one would expect. According to Palm, the manufacturers is now expecting a full-year revenue going below what it had estimated earlier of $1.6 billion to $1.8 billion. The reports of Garmin is also similar. The company is till date “disappointed” with its nuvifone products sale. These can also give a jerk to new players in the market such as Dell, LG, Acer and other.

Ramon Llamas, analyst of IDC’s smartphone, said: “Instead of, ‘If you build it, they will come,’ it’s turned into, ‘If you build it, will they come?”

Lamas further mentioned that the two, Garmin and Palm, faced unique challenges. So far the marketing effort of Palm targeted the “Valentine’s Day” potential customers and not the traditional smartphone early adopters. He explained that Garmin suffered promotional scarcity and its ecosystem too much relied on interest in mapping and directions.

John Jackson, the CCS Insight analyst, said: “We knew that Palm would launch the Pre into the teeth of new flagship products (or revs of products in Apple’s case) from Apple, RIM, HTC and others.”

Jackson added further, “The same is true for Garmin, compounded by the issue of Google (and now Nokia) basically undermining the navigation proposition with freeware. Without a portfolio, a limited number of stock-keeping units (one in Garmin’s case and basically two in Palm’s case) are that much more likely to get lost in the mix. Apple is the exception, but that success story is well known at this point.”

Google is going to strip down its Nexus One phone in India. After making it available for sale in many countries around the world, the company is planning the launch of its cheaper model in India and other developing countries.

It is believed that the Indian version of Nexus One will be thinner than the original version launched recently across the world. It is also reported that the newer version of Nexus One will have fewer features in comparison to the original one. Moreover, the Indianised version of Nexus One will be priced lower.

This unofficial report or a rumor of Nexus One originated from Twitter, the social networking site. On it a TV producer posted a comment that spread this news.

The strategy that Google is having for India is that to get more customers and enable to make them use the services of Google through the platform such as Android.

India is the fastest growing telecom market and every year the country adds about 18 million new mobile subscribers. Moreover, around 127 million of the wireless subscribers in India access data services and due to this the country has emerged to be an important market for mobile advertising as well as other mobile services.

In the Indian market Google is also looking forward for the high usage of its internet based services. According to a report last year in September 2009, Internet users in the country had spent up to a third of their online time on the Google websites.

Recently Google has been trying out several offering in India like the Google Phone Search, Google SMS Channels (SMS-based mobile communities), Google SMS Search (search using text).

Not only in India, Google is also set to launch the slimmed Nexus One phone to other developing countries also such as Brazil.

Much has been talked about these days about the smartphones from Microsoft, The Turtle and Pure. Lately there has been few leaks. It may be, as believed usually, be a method of getting the interests of potential customers more in the products.

Couple of days before the marketing materials of the handset were disseminated into blogs on internet. Now we have also found the first-ever photographs of The Turtle and Pure along with some of the specs of the two.

The pic of Pure reveals a pretty generic slider that to some extent looks like the Verizon ad. It has touchable squares for music, e-mail and also for the RSS feed. The handset uses Zune-esque typography and not only this, it is also apparently a social networking hub handset featuring all the connections to popular websites such as Twitter and Facebook.

The Pure reminds users of the sleeker version of Tilt of AT&T. The body of The Turtle is just like a blobby Palm Pre.

There has also been nabbed few specs by the Gizmodo for both the phones, which includes:
The screen of Turtle is 320 by 240 and that of Pure is 480 by 320.
The codenames of both the Turtle and Pure are used in the firmware. However, it do not indicate the names of actual product.

One question that goes unanswered to me is that in the coming seven months why should someone buy Windows Mobile when the Windows Phone 7 is coming in the market for the holidays?

Let us check what the senior director of Microsoft, Todd Brix, has to say about this.

In a phone interview to one of the newspapers he said, “People have to obviously decide whether they want to wait for Windows Phone 7 or buy now.” It is very clear that the future will always be advanced in technology than what we are using now he said.

Well, here is a small exception. Microsoft is unveiling the Windows Phone 7 earlier than what it has been scheduled, some eight months before. Moreover, recently it has been announced that Windows Mobile apps will not be working on the new OS. Hence, effectively the demand has been squashed for the OS than what the company is actually selling at present.

Brix says that if an user wants great e-mail experience on the Windows Mobile then the product has it. He also added that the mobile’s Windows Marketplace offers its customers too many productivity and also many business-oriented apps. He suggested in his brief talk with the media that the Windows Mobile will be treated as an affordable enterprise solution.

Brix adds further, “Windows Mobile is a very competitive solution for a lot of things people are trying to do with smartphones today. What we’re trying to do with Windows Phone 7 is push the experience a little higher.”

Brix also confirmed that the company is also expecting some mobile handset manufacturers to release more Windows Mobile 6.5 phones before the release of Windows Phone 7. He also mentioned that the present lineup of the Windows Mobile handsets will go unupgradable to the Windows Phone 7.

He said, “Our plan is to really support both Windows Phone 7 and Windows Mobile 6.5-based devices … for several years.”

Brix further briefed that the Windows Mobile 6.5 handsets will be cheaper, on an average, than those of the Windows Phone 7 Series.

Hence, it seems that people may opt for Windows Mobile 6.5 because it will be cheaper.

Sony is busy developing a technology that will have neck-to-neck competition with the iPhone and iPad. Recently the Wall Street Journal wrote an article on it saying that this new technology that is being developed at Sony will include a smartphone which will be capable of downloading and playing video games.

Apple is trying to dominate the mobile handset market and on the other hand Sony is growing its strength in the market day by day. The smartphones that are due to be released in the market has also some type of threat to these companies as it will take consumers away from the laptops and netbooks.

In the latest try of Sony, the Japanese electronics giant, a very portable device will have the best elements of the netbooks, the e-book readers and also the gaming consoles. It may be called “PlayStation Portable”, a rumour name.

The concept of portable playstation have swirled for years. Sony made use of the Sony Ericsson handset division for developing mobile phones that are capable of downloading video games and playing the PlayStation games on their handsets.

Rumours are also there that Sony may release the device in the open market by this year. Still the specifications and price of the device is unknown or may be it has not yet been finalised by the company.

Sony is also going one step further in the industry. It is preparing itself for its own version of Apple’s iTunes store. This platform, still in the tentative form, is named as Sony Online Service. Here, the mobile users can download movies, music and television programmes. Consumers can also download older games that has been earlier released for the original PlayStation console.

The Wall Street Journal also quotes analyst Noobuo Kurahashi: “That’s the vision, but it’s still not quite clear what specific steps Sony will take to achieve that, especially when iPad and other highly capable mobile devices are crowding the market.”

Skype on Nokia. Isn’t it great?

Nokia released Skype client on its range of Symbian mobile OS. This will be free with twenty phones of Nokia and it can also be downloaded from the Ovi Store of Nokia.

These range of Nokia phones will let its users to make free Skype-to-Skype calls and also to share files and send instant messages. The files sharing such as photo will be possible through a Wi-Fi or mobile data connection.

One more advantage Nokia users will get through this website is of sending SMS to abroad phones at low cost.

Both Skype and Nokia have developed several clients that have a touchscreen. The best example is Nokia N97 mini and also the latest X6 handset of Nokia. Skype recommends its mobile users to take the unlimited data plan.

According to Jean-Jacques Sahel, the director for government and regulatory affairs at Europe, Africa and Middle East skype, on an average the phone calls uses data between 8K bps (bits per second) and 20K bps.

Skype also says that very soon the company will also be launching similar versions on other manufacturers Symbian smartphones such as of Sony Ericsson. Moreover the officials mentions that developing a client for the Android phones is also on top priority.

Will the mobile operators welcome Skype features on mobile?

Officials of Skype says the operators view that Skype is changing for better, but some operators in U.K, Spain, France and Germany either are prohibiting the subscribers from using Skype on their mobile or else they are charging some “discriminatory” extra fees for this service.

However, Skype is optimistic and says that the mobile operators across the world will eventually start treating the Skype traffic as any other data.

Well, let us wait and see how the operators are going to make more money with the Skype on handsets.
